Training INTELed aims to support special and general education teachers in acquiring knowledge and skills about the use of multi-sensory technology for learning and assessment, for addressing the needs of SEN children in inclusive education contexts. This will be obtained through an innovative training method, driven by theories of embodied cognition, research on embodied learning, and the premise of multi-sensory technologies.                            

The method will be accompanied by evidence of its effectiveness through pilot studies in schools at the four partner-countries. The partners will work on presenting the pedagogical framework, the training model and instructional materials, and the procedures for implementation and evaluation.

Specific purpose of the inclusive learning resource

The project aims to support special and general education teachers in acquiring knowledge and skills about the use of multi-sensory technology for learning and assessment, for addressing the needs of SEN children in inclusive education contexts.

The educators have completed the training and feel confident to utilize the Embodied Learning Methodology using the Kinect technology

The pedagogical foundations of INTELed stem from the theories of embodiment and their confluence with pedagogical theories of learning, that have resulted in the ideas of embodied learning.

Embodied learning is a contemporary pedagogical theory of learning which emphasizes the use of the body in the educational practice. Put simply, the idea behind the pedagogical theory of embodied learning is that the body plays a significant role in shaping the mind.

Embodied learning as a pedagogical approach is gaining momentum due to the appearance of innovative and affordable interactive technological interfaces that enable new forms of interaction between humans and computers. At the same time, embodied learning has been largely embraced in special and inclusive educational settings, given that the characteristics of technological embodied interfaces fit well with the needs of children in such as motor impairments, Autistic Syndrome Disorder, ADHD, and other mental disabilities.

The Driver4VR utility features a step-by-step guide that walks you through the body calibration. The software must measure your body from several vantage points and positions, including standing and crouching poses in multiple locations within the tracked VR play space to build a model of your body’s movements. The user need to understand and follow those instructions also student with wheelchairs or physical disabilities might have difficulties with this procedure. 


Expected results on implementation of the resource

Teachers will undergo to 4 different stages: 1) Teachers as learners, 2) Teachers as "Teachers" 3) Teachers as "Innovators", 4) Teachers as "reflective Practitioners" Stage

Activities

Inclusive learning intervention logic: (What are the key activities to be carried out and in what sequence in order to reach the expected results?) 

1) Teachers as learners: this stage includes teachers’ familiarization with the notion of embodied cognition through the use of interactive and multi-sensory techniques. Stage 2)Teachers as "Teachers", teachers are introduced to INTELed  educational resources.Stage 3)Teachers as "Innovators",This is the stage where teachers’ pilots take place in schools. During this stage, teachers will be asked to enact the INTELed educational resources in their classroom settings and  Stage 4) Teachers will act as "reflective Practitioners" During this stage teachers will be invited to reflect on their pilots as well as to share their experiences with their colleagues.
