The project will develop a self-assessment tool and a self-improvement educational package to investigate and in turn to support the way early childhood educators promote physical activities in their classroom.

The project will implement to the educational field an innovative technique named Discrete Choice Modeling (DCM). The DCM is widely used in marketing, bio-statistics and other scientific areas, while its use in education is still very sparse. The usefulness of the DCM is that it reveals the real and actual preferences of the responders, by extracting their representations about a topic.

The main educational material that will be developed for the purposes of SIA-ProD is the Teacher Self-Assessment Assistant (TSAA) and the Self-Improvement Educational Package (SIEP).

Based on their experience and expertise, seven organisations/ institutions from four European countries have agreed to establish a partnership to fully contribute to the project.

The SIA-ProD expected results are the following:
To develop new evaluation methods:
1.1. The development of an innovative tool for self-assessment (Teacher Self-Assessment Assistant-TSAA), which will be based on the Discrete Choice Models method
1.2. To provide feedback to early childhood educators about the way they use physical activities and it will facilitate them in their effort to improve their practices
1.3. Research results will be developed and disseminated through publications in the topic of professional development and in-service training in ECEC
To promote early educators’ self-improvement:
2.1. The feedback from the implementation of TSAA will allow practitioners to reflect on their competences and to form their personal training agenda based on their individual needs, regarding the way they utilize physical activities in classroom
2.2. Enhanced competences of the ECE staff that participated in the self-improvement phase of the project
To enhance the quality of in-service teacher training:
3.1. The development of the Self-Improvement Educational Package (SIEP)
3.2. The provision of an accessible and innovative in-service training method. The successful completion of this initial effort.

Teacher Self-Assessment Assistant (TSAA)
The Teacher Self-Assessment Assistant (TSAA) will be developed based on the Discrete Choice Modeling (DCM) approach. The TSAA will contain the most important attributes for promoting physical activities in ECEC.
Self-Improvement Educational Package (SIEP)
The Development of the Self-Improvement Educational Package (SIEP) will be developed based on the attributes contained in the Teacher Self-Assessment Assistant (TSAA) in order to include supportive materials for all the dimensions of promoting physical activities in ECEC. This way, according to the feedback they will receive from the completion of TSAA, they will be able to use the SIEP and design their personal training agenda.
