Overall objectives of the inclusive learning resource
Inclusive learning intervention logic: (What are the overall broader objectives to which the action will contribute?)
Missing key to qualitative inclusive education implementation was lack of real and recent research-based tools. Based on this need, the National Center for Education developed a project entitled "Developing a Support System for Learners with Functional Disabilities".Information and methodological materials were developed for teachers as well as for parents with children with functional disabilities, including cooperation with specialists.
Objectively verifiable indicators of achievement: (What are the key indicators related to the overall objectives?)
Project lacks achievement information, since part of the material is no longer to be found.
Sources and means of verification: (What are the sources of information for these indicators?)
Expected results of the project: -About 700 educational institutions in Latvia received teaching and methodological materials,
- municipal pedagogical medical commissions have received psychological research tools,
- students with mental disabilities have received educational materials,
- an inclusive education support system has been established (8 Inclusive Education Support Centers, etc.),
- raising public awareness of inclusive education issues
Risks and Challenges:
For a project to be successful, it needs to be continuously monitored and updated.
Specific purpose of the inclusive learning resource
Inclusive learning intervention logic: (What specific objective is the resource intended to achieve to contribute to the overall objectives?)
Much has been accomplished over the years in designing and developing an inclusive education system, but the key to qualitative implementation of the missing was the lack of real and recent research-based tools. Based on this need, the National Center for Education developed a project "Development of a Support System for Students with Functional Disabilities", within the framework of which a lot of useful information, methodological, interactive, educational and other materials for educators working with special needs children in inclusive educational institutions
Objectively verifiable indicators of achievement: (Which indicators clearly show that the objective of the actions/resource has been achieved?)
Sources and means of verification: (What are the sources of information that exist or can be collected? What are the methods required to get this information?)
During the project, innovative solutions have been developed to develop an inclusive education support system. The main ones:
- established 8 Inclusive Education Support Centers;
- Interactive learning materials for language and mathematics development for learners with intellectual disabilities and learners with severe mental retardation
- developing active speaking and reading abilities;
- translated and adapted symbol language software;
- customized and standardized tests for psychologists, educators and speech therapists;
- sets of informative materials for parents of children with functional disorders have been developed
Risks and Challenges: (Which factors and conditions outside the user's responsibility are necessary to achieve that objective? (external conditions)) Which risks should be taken into consideration?
The importance of risk is the obsolescence of information and the non-use of new inactive methods.
Expected results on implementation of the resource
Inclusive learning intervention logic: (The results are the outputs envisaged to upscale. What are the expected results?)
Expected results of the project:
1.about 700 educational institutions in Latvia received educational and methodological materials,
2.municipal pedagogical medical commissions have received psychological research tools,
3.students with mental disabilities have received educational materials,
4.an inclusive education support system has been established (8 Inclusive Education Support Centers, etc.),
5.raising public awareness of inclusive education issues
Objectively verifiable indicators of achievement: (What are the indicators to measure whether and to what extent the action/resource achieves the expected results?)
Sources and means of verification: (What are the available sources of information for these indicators?)
The project involves: 3 higher education institutions (LU, RA, LiepU), 25 support educational institutions, 3 non-governmental organizations (IIC, IAC, Velki) and municipalities.
Risks and Challenges: (What external conditions must be met to obtain the expected results on schedule?)
Activities
Inclusive learning intervention logic: (What are the key activities to be carried out and in what sequence in order to reach the expected results?)
Objectively verifiable indicators of achievement: (What are the means required to implement these activities, e.g. personnel, equipment, training, studies, supplies, operational facilities, etc.)
To be applied by the professionals and staff involved in the inclusive ecosystem.
Sources and means of verification: (What are the sources of information about action progress?)
Risks and Challenges: (What pre-conditions are required before the use of the resource starts? What conditions outside the user's direct control have to be met for the implementation of the planned activities?)
In order for a project to be feasible it has to work with its specific audience. Achieving the project's goal would require a variety of introductory lectures and introductions to make it a success over many years, as well as a continuous extension of information and activities.
