Title of practice: FM systems
Author/developer: University of Vienna
Language: German
Description of good practice:
FM systems can significantly improve the hearing of students with hearing impairments in the university. They can use these systems that provide greater clarity of speech/sound. Students at the University of Vienna can borrow handy FM systems for the various events, organised by the university, as well as for lectures. FM systems are handy and mobile. The FM systems enable direct voice transmission (for lectures or conversations) to a hearing aid. The speaker wears a radio microphone. The student with hearing impairment wears a radio receiver that receives the signals from the microphone and transmits them to the hearing aid. The receiver can either be attached directly to the hearing aid or worn around the neck. Since the speech is transmitted directly to the hearing aid, a very poor acoustic room situation can also be compensated for.
