Title of practice: Open University with free online education materials
Author/developer: OpenLearn
Language: English
Description of good practice:
An Access module is a great place to start if you want a gentle education to Open University. Designed specifically for OU students, it can also help special need students to find out more about their interests and where they want their learning to take as long as all the subject materials are available for everyone and they encourage special need students to take their modules.

There are three Access modules to choose from, and they start each February, May, and October.

Designed to inspire, they explore a range of broadly related subjects within one module. That means they have the time and space to discover where a student's natural interests lie before settling on ultimate qualification goal.

They’re different to other universities because they’re open to people based on their potential rather than their prior qualifications. Most of their courses have no formal entry requirements and their students come from a diverse range of educational backgrounds including students with special needs. So, they offer a choice of starting points depending on how confident a student is in their study skills. As long as their study materials are free to access, it is even easier for special need students to explore.
