Medical College "Yordanka Filaretova" within Medical University-Sofia, Bulgaria is the only one in the country where people with visual impairments can study vocational bachelor degree within higher education, designed especially for them. People with visual impairments have the opportunity to enroll in the specialty "Masseur", and then, as a result of the gained experience and practice they find realization on the labor market. In recent years, most of the graduates have been hired, says Mariana Albert, head of this bachelor degree.
The masseur with impaired vision is a specialist with medical education, graduated from medical college after high school and successfully passed an entrance exam. The masseur with impaired vision participates in the implementation of the rehabilitation program of the patient. He works in a team with the doctor, rehabilitator, pedagogue, social worker, nurse, speech therapist, psychologist, occupational therapist and others.
The competencies of the masseur with impaired vision enable him to work in studios for massage, sports massage, hydrotherapy and heat treatment rooms of public and private health facilities, specialized rehabilitation centers, beauty salons, hotels, fitness clubs, SPA centers and others.
