Description of good practice:
It is provided by the Disabled Students Unit so that special needs students who continue their education at Istanbul Kultur University can achieve educational equality: • Peer mentoring support is provided in educational activities. • Educational activities are supported by a team of volunteer students who know Turkish Sign Language. • In libraries, the tools and equipment that students with disabilities will need for reading/listening to books and studying are provided. • Audio recordings and presentations of lectures can be accessed. • In the lessons, materials such as large print, e-text, audio files, enriched with audio-visual resources can be accessed. • Exam formats and duration are arranged according to needs. • The reader can take the exam with a marker and a writer. • Necessary arrangements are made in all course environments (laboratory, workshops, etc.). • Note-taking support is provided when necessary. Istanbul Kultur University Disabled Student Unit provides transportation and access support to venues such as halls, parking areas, elevators, stairs, ramps, campus entrances and exits, emergency exits and rescue areas, wet areas, dining halls and cafeterias, sports fields, and dormitories. For students with special needs studying at Istanbul Kultur University to access socio-cultural activities, by the Disabled Student Unit: • An orientation program is implemented that takes into account the needs of students with disabilities. • Peer mentoring support is provided in socio-cultural activities. • Conferences, cultural events, etc. with a team of volunteer students who know Turkish Sign Language. Individual support is provided in extracurricular activities. • Social responsibility and awareness activities are supported by the activities of IKU “Awareness Student Club”. • All announcements are made in voice, written or sign language. • Our students are encouraged to participate in activities organized in cooperation with non-governmental organizations. • Ease of access is provided to socializing areas such as canteens and dining halls. The brochure is also presented.
