The Bangladesh National Federation for the Deaf in Dhaka has an estimated 1,400 students with hearing impairments. Bangladesh National Federation of the Deaf (BNFD) is the first Disabled People’s Organization (DPO) of Bangladesh. It is the mother of associations of the Deaf in Bangladesh, established on 25th December 1963 targeted Deaf people to be self-reliant through education, trainings and skill development. Their activities: 1. Conduct educational institutions and technical and vocational training centers for education, skill development and rehabilitation of people with hearing and speech disabilities. 2. Conduct 15 special school for students with hearing and speech impairment across the country including Dhaka Deaf High School and College. 3. Trainings for Deaf free of cost; computer basic & different application, CAD, photography and graphics design, sewing and garments, electrical and gas welding, air-cooler and refrigerator repairing, mobile & computer servicing, draftsmanship, different vocational trainings including Fungiculture/mushroom cultivation and apiculture for honey. 4. Bangla Sign Language Training 5. Hostel Facilities for the Deaf students 6. Proposed project of hospital for the Deaf.
